September Holiday Activities: Vintage Dragon Playgrounds In Singapore

Here are four dragon playgrounds you can find in the little red dot!

The dragon playground has been an iconic installation in Singapore since it was first designed in 1979 by Khor Ean Ghee. While these phased out in 1993 due to safety concerns, chances are you can still spot a few of these classic Oriental dragon-inspired playgrounds.

If you’ve been meaning to catch a dragon, here are four places you’ll find one in Singapore. These are in fact, the last remaining heritage dragon playgrounds in the country so don’t miss your chance to experience these with your kids.

Where To Find A Dragon Playground In Singapore

Ang Mo Kio Ave 3

The unique aspect of a dragon playground in Singapore is its intricate design. The playground at Ang Mo Kio for instance, is no different as it also has a spiral dragon spine for kids to walk through before sliding down its ends.

The dragon playground in this area also has a distinctive look as it is designed in a mosaic style, making it look great under the sun.

Location: Beside Blk 571 Ang Mo Kio Ave 3 Singapore 560570

Pipit Road MacPherson

With a much simpler mosaic design, the dragon playground at Pipit Road Macpherson is worth the visit as well. Similar to the one at Ang Mo Kio, this installation has a rubber base floor instead of a sandpit for children’s safety.

As it’s a single spiral slide, kids can climb up the dragon’s “spine” staircase and slide down just the same. But before that, they can also peek through the dragon’s eyes with the holes placed by its head.

While your kids play around the dragon, there are also fitness stations you can try out to make your day out worth it as well!

Before getting to the real thing, there is also a mini dragon playground at Toa Payoh Lorong 1 for small kids to try. While it has the same iconic dragon design, this playground is much smaller than the full dragon playground at Toa Payoh Lorong 6.

So if you don’t mind that it’s a bit smaller in size and have younger kids anyway, you can choose to visit this dragon playground in Singapore instead.

Location: Between Blk 240 and 241 Toa Payoh Lor 1 Singapore 310240

Toa Payoh Lorong 6

The full dragon playground at Toa Payoh Lorong 6 is the most popular one on this list. It’s also the only dragon playground in Singapore with a sandpit for your little one to create as many sand sculptures as they’d like.
