The June holidays in Singapore aren’t exactly a break for parents. They’re more like an academic juggling act dressed up as family time. You’re balancing holiday plans, enrichment classes, screen time guilt, and somehow—miraculously—trying to preserve your child’s sanity and your own.
One minute, you’re promising yourself a chill, connection-filled school break. The next, you’re knee-deep in Telegram chats, comparing bootcamps, Googling “bite-sized learning programmes in Singapore,” and wondering if enrolling your child in three different holiday courses counts as overachieving—or just surviving.
And while the tuition scene can sometimes feel like a stress factory, there’s a refreshing exception: The Nuggets Academy. You might remember it as Math Nuggets—the cosy centre with the bite-sized modules that made tough math feel human again.
Well, guess what? The Nuggets just got bigger. Now, they’re diving into English and Science too.

Led by educator and first-time mum Sandra Lim, who’s clocked over 20 years in the classroom trenches, The Nuggets Academy isn’t here to pile on worksheets or chase grades. It’s here to do something far more important: restore your child’s belief in themselves.
If your child’s confidence has taken a hit or if you’re just looking for a smarter way to support them through Singapore’s ever-evolving education maze, this might just be the nugget of gold you’ve been searching for.
From Math Nuggets to a Full-Fledged Academy

Sandra Lim has been teaching for over two decades, but she doesn’t call herself a tuition teacher. “I would like to call myself not really in the tuition business,” she says. “I call ourselves in the transformation business, because we transform how kids feel about themselves and how they learn.”

Originally launched as Math Nuggets, Sandra’s centre focused on math coaching. But over time, more and more parents began asking: “Can you help my child in English? In Science?”
So they listened. “From Math Nuggets, we added Science Nuggets and English Nuggets. So right now, we’re The Nuggets Academy.”
But the biggest change isn’t the subjects. It’s the heart behind the teaching.
What Is Bite-Sized Learning—And Why Does It Work?
If the phrase bite-sized learning sounds like a marketing buzzword, think again.
At The Nuggets Academy, it’s a core philosophy.

“Yes, we teach in small chunks,” Sandra explains. “But the logic behind it is not just about breaking things up. It’s actually an empathy-first approach.”
Empathy-first means that instead of overwhelming a struggling student with pages of worksheets, they zoom in. They slow down. They build confidence by helping kids rack up small wins.
“Kids who struggle aren’t lazy. They’re not incapable,” Sandra says. “They just haven’t been taught in the way they need. When we break down scary topics into smaller pieces, they start feeling, ‘Hey, I can do this.’ That’s when the magic happens.”
In an era when Singapore education often feels like a rat race, bite-sized learning is a breath of fresh air. “Less is truly more,” Sandra says. “Especially when kids are already juggling so much emotionally and academically.”
The June Holidays, Upgraded with The Nuggets Holiday Bootcamp
The Nuggets Academy is introducing a new Holiday Bootcamp for Primary 5 and 6 students—designed for maximum impact, minus the meltdown.
“These sessions are short-format and high-engagement,” Sandra shares. “It’s not about throwing more worksheets at them. We teach them practical strategies, help them feel prepared, and most importantly—help them feel confident.”
Think bite-sized, high-energy classes that meet students where they are and lift them a little higher each time. It’s everything we want from enrichment—and nothing we don’t.
What Parents Are Really Looking For?
So why do parents come to enrichment centres like this in the first place?

“They’re not just looking for tuition,” Sandra says. “They’re looking for hope and help.”
Many parents who walk through the doors of The Nuggets Academy feel lost. “They’ve tried different tutors. They’ve even tried teaching their kids themselves. But nothing seems to work. Their child is not improving, and they’re losing motivation.”
What these families need, Sandra says, is someone to say, “I see your child. I believe in them. And we have a plan.”
Kids, too, are craving something deeper. “They want to feel smart again,” Sandra says. “They want someone to stop saying, ‘You’re so careless,’ and start saying, ‘You’ve got this.’”
That’s where the real work begins.
Singapore Education Is Evolving—So Is The Nuggets Academy
From Ministry of Education (MOE) reforms to AI in classrooms, Singapore education is shifting fast. So how does a boutique centre stay relevant?
By staying grounded, says Sandra.
“Our core hasn’t changed,” she explains. “We help kids understand—not just memorize. We build thinking skills, not just test-taking skills.”
Of course, the team adapts. They constantly review the MOE syllabus. They now offer a digital learning portal for additional home support. They even use assignment data to refine their curriculum.
But one thing stays the same: “What do children really need? They need clarity, consistency, and care. That is our compass.”
Guilt, Grace, and the Reality of Parenting in Singapore
For many Singaporean parents, academic anxiety comes hand-in-hand with parent guilt. Are you doing enough? Too much? Missing the mark?
Sandra gets it. As a new mother herself, she’s seen both sides.
“I tell them, you’re already doing a lot—just by being here and asking,” she says. “There’s no manual for parenting. What your child needs is not perfection. What they need is presence.”
That’s why The Nuggets Academy doesn’t pile on. “Life is stressful enough,” she adds. “We work with families to create structure, clarity, and consistency, so parents can focus on what matters: peace of mind, progress, and preserving that precious parent-child bond.”
In other words, they’ll handle the worksheets. You handle the hugs.
On Sandra’s Story: From Math Coach to Mum—And Still Taking Notes
Sandra may have only officially joined the mum club four years ago, but she’s been in full-on nurturing mode for more than two decades.
Her journey began in 2002, tutoring students in Mathematics, English, Science, and even Chinese. Since then, she’s helped over 1,000 students find clarity, confidence, and a way forward, especially those at risk of failing or struggling with issues like math anxiety, dyscalculia, or shaky foundational understanding.

Now 41, Sandra is the founder of The Nuggets Academy. And while her centre may be expanding, her mission has stayed the same: to make learning joyful, personalised, and effective.
That empathy-forward approach took on new meaning when she became a mother herself.

“My daughter is what I call ‘feisty,’” Sandra says with a knowing laugh. “Strong opinions, big emotions… not the easiest to handle. But I’m really thankful. All those years of working with students? That gave me the armour I needed.”
Her background is backed by serious training. Sandra holds a Bachelor’s in Business Management (Entrepreneurship) from RMIT, an Advanced Certificate in Learning and Performance (ACLP) under the WSQ framework, and a Specialist Diploma in Supporting Children with Special Needs. She’s also certified in Dyscalculia and Numeracy Teaching from DAS Academy.
Translation: this is someone who understands the brain and the heart behind learning.
So what has two decades in the classroom, and now, a few years in the playroom, taught her?
“That every child needs to be approached the way they need to be approached,” she says. “And that learning doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Kids learn best when they feel safe, seen, and supported.”
Spoken like a teacher, a coach, and yes—a very real mum.
