It’s not easy dressing our kids up, but its not impossible. We all want our kids to look fashionable yet feel comfortable in their clothes. Check out ten no-no’s when choosing outfits for your kids without sacrificing style. 1. Avoid clothes that are too tight

Always buy a size bigger, they are growing after all. Kids are naturally hyperactive and they all need extra room and stretch when climbing trees or frolicking in an outdoor playground.

Kids have very delicate and sensitive skin. Not all fabrics are suitable for them. Go for cotton, silk, wool, polyester and linen when you’re shopping for your kids-- These are safe fabrics for them; to avoid rashes and other skin problems.

There is no need to dress your kids up in turtlenecks, high boots and leather jackets. Leave these fashion trends to Western kids. Singaporean kids may suffer from heat stroke unless you are staying in a cold country.

The colours of our clothes represent our mood. Try not to dress your kids up in dark colours such as black, dark brown or navy blue. A kid is happier when his/her outfit screams ‘I am happy’.

Don’t dress your kids up in weird colour combos. Avoid similar colour shades and make sure the top is a completely different colour from the bottom. Neon colours could be challenging so try not to mix three or more of those bright colours as you wouldn’t want your kids to look like clowns.

Patterns and prints are very important. Pick only one type of pattern – if you decide to go with squares, make sure the outfit has only square designs or a mixture of plain colours. For example, it would be ridiculous to mix polka dots and checks print. Remember, your kids don’t work at the circus.

Always adhere to a specific theme. If you decide to dress them up as a princess then go all out--make them the loveliest princess ever. Don’t change your mind and go rock star on them mid-way--or your kid will have a fru fru gown with studded bracelets, a leather jacket and biker boots. Oh wait a minute--we just described Avril Lavigne!

This is a very important fact. 3-year-old girls are NOT 30-year-old women! Dressing them up in tube tops, leopard print, micro mini skirts and fishnet stockings. Gee..even 30-year-olds should not wear these items.
9. Be wary of your colour selection

Rainbow-colour clothes is a big no-no. Never go for more than two colours in an outfit.
10. Less is more

Hair bands and ribbons are cute but never put more than two ribbons or hair clips on their head. You want your kid to look classy--not silly. Have fun dressing them up.
