5 tips for a stress free school morning

8 Jan, 2013

Getting ready for school can be stressful for both the child and the parent. Check out these tips to ensure every school morning is devoid of unnecessary worry.

1) Have a routine

1) Have a routine

Make bedtime the same time every night. This is important to establish a bedtime routine. Also set your child’s alarm clock to the same time every morning, so their body clock will sync with the routine of sleeping and waking up at the same time. This will save you the trouble of whining and cranky kids who want an extra 15 minutes in bed.
2) Settle all work the night before

2) Settle all work the night before

Make it a habit to check your child’s schoolbag the night before or go through his school diary so you can and your child can stay on top of all homework, forms that need to be signed etc. This will eliminate the last minute morning rush that can happen.
3) Get organised

3) Get organised

Keep all emergency supplies in a designated area that is clearly marked. For example, umbrellas or raincoats, as well as extra school supplies such as files, glue, colour pencils etc. Having the area clearly marked will make it easily accessible for your child to find, so that he or she does not have to stress you about where everything is while you’re getting ready. It also saves precious time.
4) Fuss free lunch

4) Fuss free lunch

If you’re intending to pack your child’s lunch, have all ingredients ready the night before so that you don’t have to prep in the morning. We also recommend keeping things simple such as egg and cheese sandwich or a healthy fruit salad with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. These combos are fuss free and fast to make.
5) The importance of the timetable

5) The importance of the timetable

Draw out your child’s timetable on a piece of drawing block or on a whiteboard. There should be two copies, one in your child’s room and one in your room. This way you will always be up to date on which books your child needs to bring as well as when they need to pack their P.E attire. This will serve as a constant reminder and will help you better prepare your child for the school week ahead.
