7 steps to successfully getting your child into showbiz

To determine that your children’s love for acting isn’t just a fluke, let them join the drama club in their school or ask them to audition for the next school play. Their passion for acting should shine through even if they are just playing a minor role. Once they learn several acting techniques, you can get kids into acting in a larger scale without needing to persuade them.

Memorize lines

To be a great actor, your children must be excellent in memorizing lines. Make your own scripts and have your children read it aloud with emotion. Give them sufficient time to memorize their dialogues before letting them act out the scenes. This is very important because if you want to get kids into acting, they must have superb memorization and reading skills.

Have photos ready

If you want to get kids into acting, they must have several professionally-taken photos for their portfolio. Full body and head shot photos in colour and in black & white are a must. For more variety, ask your children to wear different clothes as well as convey different emotions on each photograph.

Create a resume

Create a resume for your child that indicates basic information like name, age, weight, and hair and eye colour. Make sure to include email addresses and contact numbers but never disclose your home address. Also, apart from highlighting your child’s talents and achievements, acting experience and training should also be mentioned. A full resume adds greater chances to get kids into acting.

Find an agent

The first step towards becoming an actor is having an agent. If you think your child is ready to be fully immersed in the world of acting, scout around for an agent. When auditioning for agents, never pay for any money up front especially those who promise your children different acting roles. The agent will only get money via commission as soon as your kids are hired in certain projects.

Invest in advanced classes

When your children have obtained several acting roles, let them enrol in advanced acting classes or workshops. These classes will further hone their acting skill to make them better and versatile actors. Any qualms or shyness that they might still have will be eliminated.

Be present

To get your kids into acting, you must be 110% percent available for them. When they are hired for acting jobs, you must always be present at the set at all times. If you cannot commit to this type of work schedule, you have to be honest with your kids to avoid any disappointments.
