The 10 different ways you can eat durians

The durian is easily one of Singapore's favourite fruit, well, at least most Singaporeans love durians! This tropical fruit can either be a hit or a miss for people. You either love it or you hate it, there's literally no in between! For the lovers however, we've come up with a list of the different ways you can eat this thorny delight, enjoy!

Durian Creme Brulee

The Quarters came up with the Durian Creme Brulee after the chef and owner of the restaurant, Deming, was searching for the perfect creme brulee. This dessert is also given a local name; Duriancanboleh and it sells for $8.50. It's made from Mao Shan Wang durians and comes with a rich flavour and creamy texture.

Durian mochi

Four Seasons sells two versions of the durian mochi; the Mao Shan Wang version and the D24 Version. Selling at $8 and $3.90 for four pieces respectively, this dessert is made up of Japanese glutinous flour and filled with durian stuffing. It is also one of the company's top sellers!

Durian Puffs

Durian puffs are the ultimate crowd pleasure, young or old. One box of 20 pieces will not be enough, especially since they come in bite sizes and the box will most probably be empty in less than 3 minutes! They are also one of the top sellers at Four seasons outlets and they sell at $12.80 for a box of 20.

Durian Candy

In need of a durian fix but not in a one-off way? How about durian candies? Another one from Four seasons, the Durian Milk Candy isn't sticky and it is also chewy! Selling for $3.50 a packet, this candy is not available at all of Four seasons outlets. Good news though, you can opt for delivery instead!

Durian Cold Cake

In terms of texture, the cold cake is like a mix of beancurd and jelly. At Ji De Chi, you can get the durian version of the cold cake at only $4.80 for two pieces! It's sweet although the durian taste isn't prominent. Also, be careful with the packaging as it is served in a plastic container which can turn out to be a slippery mess!

Durian Ice Cream

The Mao Shan Wang ice cream from Four Seasons has people forming queues after queues waiting to have a taste of this sweet treat. Made from the king of durians, this ice cream will have you coming back for more! It only costs $3 per serving and it also comes with delivery!

Pengat Durian

Pengat durian is the mix of durians, water, coconut sugar, coconut milk and pandan leaves. Sounds local enough? This dessert dish is available at Ellenborough Market Cafe and is best eaten warm and it serves as the perfect comfort food, especially if you're in need of some nostalgia.

Durian Chee Cheong Fun

The durian twist of the classic dim sum dish has been a hot favourite at House of Rice Roll and Porridge. Its rice roll has a generous serving of the Mao Shan Wang durian, topped with nuts. This dessert is also served chilled and sold for $5.50. Get your durian dim sum now!

Durian Sago

The durian sago is the perfect treat for ultimate durian lovers. This creamy dessert is filled with thick, smooth durian puree and, if that's not already enough, there's a ball of durian flesh in the middle. It is then topped with sago and served chilled. Pretty sinful for a single serving, I'd say! It sells for $6.50 and sharing is recommended!

Durian Shaved Ice

Durian Ice Kachang anyone? Except that it consists of durians only, with pomelo and yoghurt pearls! This dessert is perfect for when it's really hot out or if you're just in need of a durian fix. Its generous serving of the durian puree is sweet, even when it's not the durian season. It sells for $6.50 and the taste can be a little overpowering for some, so sharing is caring!
